INNOCENCE (2011)

INNOCENCE (2011)

"...there are times when children might seem like innocent prisoners , condemned, not to death, but to life and as yet all unconscious of what their sentence means..."

This lovely passage from Arthur Schopenauer has inspired this provocative series which was created in two different times inside a basalt cave shooting before and after the programmed wall explosion and collapsing.

REMOTE CONTROL (2011)

Mathare Valley slum (Nairobi) A.D. 2011

Don't let negative pictures play on the movie screen of your mind. You own the remote control ! All you have to do is change the channel...

EVERYDAYDREAM (2010)

EVERYDAYDREAM (2010)

"Down in this valley everyday dreams are being muted, every daydream becomes a better reality, to pretend not to see or hear to dare not to speak out, a secret well kept by millions, a silent social dysfunction that shuts up even the will to complain, what the wealthier citizens want is to rise above this shit; These are not their neighbours but their enemies, the process of social differentiation runs faster than solidarity, It's crueller."

Claudio Torres - Mathare (Nairobi 2010)

 FLOWER POTS (2010)

 FLOWER POTS (2010)

"Now we go into the vulnerable realm of an impossible privacy, constantly threatened and modified by all that's happening outside; rooms as decorated trenches of a never-ending battle; 9 square meters where to try a claustrophobic but worthy independence, where to keep dignity at low cost. Now focus in the flowerpots; the picture is a transparent flowerpot allowing you to check every corner of these rooms...look again: the dwellers are the flowers."

Claudio Torres - Mathare (Nairobi 2010)

WHITE RABBIT (2010)

White Rabbit: One of the many mystical figures that leads you into a hole of psychological discovery. Sometimes related to using psychedelic drugs like lsd, but also used in hypnosis and meditation to reach a desired destination (such as a different level of consciousness or location).

ANDROIDS (2008)

ANDROIDS (2008)

In a futuristic era, in the aftermath of a planetary catastrophe, humankind is almost extinct. A a few surviving scientists in an attempt to recover even merely the energies that once belonged to humanity, collect some body parts from among the debris of a destroyed world and assemble them on workbenches in the hopes of rediscovering the secret of the human spirit.

These reassembled beings are powered by electronic microchips that projects in front of them a pseudo-reality, which has no perspective but can at least recapture some of the meaning and symbolism of a world that has ended in self-destruction . Each anatomic therefore becomes a simulacrum of the traditions, vices, pleasures and pain that were once the bittersweet characteristics of humanity.

 EMOTICON - SHIPWRECKED (2007)

 EMOTICON - SHIPWRECKED (2007)

"Crusoe/Emoticon has no particular features, he is just an aseptic container of binary codes, he is detached, neglectful....He certainly is not very nice, he exists mainly because of the stupidity of his "servant/Friday". Because of the emptiness surrounding him, he values "Crusoe/Emoticon" as someone to honor - this is the only way to make his worthless existence worth living. This figure typifies an autobiographical experience with virtual reality (community web, chats, forums and virtual platforms): For some time it got too much of my attention, so afterwards I wanted to make fun of it, using ridiculous symbols. "
